At the heart of this department is a collective of cultivators who bring diverse experience, perspectives, and passions. Among them is Trevor Brackley, who helps guide R&D efforts with a blend of scientific focus and hands-on growing intuition. Together, the team’s work shapes some of the most beloved JAR Cannabis products on shelves today.
R&D at JAR Cannabis was built on a simple idea: never stop exploring. That philosophy mirrors how many cultivators begin. Trevor sprouted his first seeds on a windowsill and tucked early plants among backyard ferns. What starts as curiosity often evolves into a lifelong relationship with the plant.
Within the R&D department, that same spirit drives experimentation and encourages the team to constantly ask what else the plant can do and how its best traits can be brought forward.
When asked what brought him to JAR Cannabis, Trevor says he felt an immediate alignment with the company’s vision. During his interview and facility tour, he noticed the structured, intentional approach to improvement. He saw a place where attention to detail is not just encouraged, but celebrated. It was clear that he would have the space and support to learn, refine his skills, and contribute meaningfully.
“I think my greatest motivators are daily challenges, the team effort, and knowing that the work is never done, and there will always be more to learn,” says Trevor Brackley
The R&D team at JAR Cannabis believes innovation is most powerful when built on consistency. “The trend that excites me most every day is seed selection. There’s nothing like a new fusion of scent, flavor, and effect. A lot goes into choosing a strain. Sometimes it is best to prioritize consumer feedback over plant growth or production. Other times, all the stars align. I enjoy caring for new plants as they begin their journey at JAR, and seeing others find something they love or that helps them,” -says Trevor Brackley
Sustainability is another key driver. The team continually refines LED lighting strategies, irrigation schedules, and environmental controls to conserve both water and energy. In many cases, these improvements also support stronger plant health.
As the gardens evolve, Trevor remains excited about exploring new cultivars and offering customers fresh sensory experiences. Every strain has the potential to help someone in a meaningful way, and his team is dedicated to nurturing that potential through careful care and selection.
He is also focused on strengthening efficiency across the gardens. Improving processes helps JAR continue to offer premium quality products in a sustainable, scalable way.

Trevor lights up when talking about the ongoing work behind some standout cultivars. Oishii is one of them. It can be finicky and requires extra patience, especially during the clone and veg stages. But the effort has paid off. Oishii shines in both flower and extraction formats, proving that thoughtful cultivation can unlock exceptional potential in even the most challenging varieties.
Mule Fuel and Deep Space are two others that thrive in JAR Cannabis’ environment. Their strong genetics have produced some of the highest yields the team has ever seen, and they have helped streamline maintenance tasks and shorten standard veg times. These cultivars demonstrate how well plants can perform when environmental conditions are dialed in with skill and intention.
