Introducing Cured Melt (Piatella Style): Jar Co’s Approach to Premium Small-Batch Hash

Introducing Cured Melt (Piatella Style): Jar Co’s Approach to Premium Small-Batch Hash

We’re excited to introduce Cured Melt (Piatella Style) to Maine’s adult use market. This premium solventless concentrate is made from full melt bubble hash and cold cured into a shelf-stable, buttery consistency that’s sure to excite anyone in search of a bold new experience.

While this style of full melt hash is commonly known as Piatella, we’ve chosen to call our version Cured Melt out of deep respect for its origins. The technique was pioneered by Uncle’s Farm Cannabis Social Club in Barcelona, Spain, and earned global recognition after placing third at the 2020 Ego Clash in northern California. Referring to our product as Piatella Style allows us to honor that legacy and recognize the original creators.

Cured Melt is crafted using only five and six star bubble hash made from fresh frozen flower. After the hash is freeze dried, it’s vacuum sealed and undergoes the cold curing process. Cold curing involves storing the hash at low temperatures, typically between 50°F and 60°F, for several weeks or even months. This slow process allows the hash to naturally “sweat” terpenes, which transforms the consistency into something exceptional. The result is a soft, sliceable texture that’s easy to handle and offers a truly unique experience. Whether you dab, vape, or add it to a joint, bowl, or bong, this flavorful hash packs a punch with long lasting effects that hit hard and hang on.

Incoming: New JAR Locations, Same Energy

Berwick and Wiscasset, we’re coming your way.

🌿 Maine-Owned, Maine-Grown

JAR was founded by Mainers—and we’re still owned and operated by the same local team today. We live here, work here, raise families here, and spend every season out in the elements, doing what we love. Snowboarding, skiing, hiking, running, swimming, fishing, and enjoying the kinds of landscapes that make this state so special.

That connection to place is what drives how we grow. Our expansion isn’t about getting wide—it’s about thoughtful growth in towns that reflect what we’re all about: access to the outdoors, a strong sense of community, and a shared belief that cannabis can support overall wellness.

That’s why we’re so excited to bring JAR to Berwick and Wiscasset—two very different regions, but each offering their own kind of quintessential Maine lifestyle.

🌱 The JAR Ethos

At JAR Co., we’re committed to creating the highest-quality cannabis products we can—safe, effective, and responsibly sourced. But what truly sets us apart is the way we show up.

Our ethos is rooted in:

  • Wellness – We believe cannabis can be a tool for rest, recovery, and balance
  • Integrity – From cultivation to customer service, we prioritize honesty, transparency, and consistency
  • Hard Work – Our team puts in the effort to do things the right way, not the fast way
  • Community – Job creation, local partnerships, and meaningful contributions to the places we call home

We’re intentional in how we grow—always asking: Can we bring something of value here? Will this benefit the community? Can we be a good neighbor?

✨ What Makes a JAR Store Feel Like JAR

Whether you’re stepping into our flagship medical store in Windham or one of our newest recreational shops, there’s a familiar feel you’ll notice right away. Our spaces are designed to reflect the regions they’re in, while maintaining a clear throughline of JAR character.

The Look + Feel

Each store blends natural textures with intentional design:

  • Exposed post-and-beam architecture, both inside and out
  • Custom walnut displays and countertops that add warmth and depth
  • An accent wall of white birch trees in every shop
  • Pops of JAR Co. green on surrounding walls
  • Design elements that reflect each store’s surroundings—whether that’s near the coast, close to the mountains, or next to Maine’s beautiful lakes

The result? A space that feels local, calming, and quietly elevated.

The Experience

From the moment you walk in, you’re met with real people who are passionate about the plant—and meeting you where you’re at. Whether you’re a seasoned consumer or just starting to explore, we’ll take the time to make you feel welcome, not overwhelmed.

The Perks

We like to show love to our regulars and community members. Here’s what you’ll find across JAR stores:

  • Daily deals on a rotating selection of products
  • Loyalty rewards every time you shop
  • Discounts for locals, Maine cannabis employees, med card holders, veterans, and first responders
  • Seasonal events, small-batch releases, and pop-ups with our favorite Maine makers

Whether you’re popping in for a quick visit or making it part of your weekend routine, we’re here to make it a little more worthwhile.

The Energy

At every JAR location, you’ll feel the same down-to-earth, welcoming vibe. We keep things approachable and intentional—focusing on real connection, helpful guidance, and a calm, grounded environment. Our team brings warmth and enthusiasm to the space, and we aim to make every customer feel like they belong, no matter their experience level.

📍 Next Stops: Berwick + Wiscasset

We can’t wait to welcome you into our new spaces. Each one brings something fresh to the table, while staying grounded in everything we believe in. Same energy. Same standards. Same JAR. Stay tuned for more details on the openings of these two new JAR locations.

Favorite Local Eats Near JAR Eliot by Sam Gadomski

Posted on: April 6th, 2025 by Erika Morotta No Comments

It’s no shock—cannabis enthusiasts and foodies are often one and the same.
As a daily cannabis user and someone who works in retail cannabis, I need food that checks all the boxes: quality, experience, and top-notch customer service. Whether you’re craving Indian, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, South American, Cuban, Italian—or just on the hunt for some of the finest fried seafood and lobster rolls the world has to offer—the greater Eliot / Berwick area delivers.

Here are a few of my personal go-to spots that never disappoint:

Lee Frank’s – South Berwick, ME
www.leefranks.com
Specializing in smash-burgers and hot dogs, this local joint is sure to satisfy your craving for something greasy and delicious. Don’t skip the house sauce, onion rings, and a milkshake to round out your meal. ($)

La Festa Pizzeria – Dover, NH
www.lafestabrickandbrew.com
Looking for the finest brick-oven pizza on the Seacoast? Look no further. Dine-in for the best experience. They serve pizza by the slice, and I highly recommend grabbing a slice of the “White Buffalo” and some garlic knots. ($)

Stoneface Brewing – Newington, NH
www.stonefacebrewing.com
NEIPA lovers, rejoice. This spot often features live music and trivia, plus they offer packs and cases to go. Their full menu is reasonably priced, but the standout item is the confit-then-deep-fried chicken wings (ask for them extra crispy). You won’t be disappointed. ($)

Nikki’s Banh Mi – Portsmouth, NH
www.nikkisbanhmi.com
Fresh, fast, and fairly priced. Outside of Vietnam, this is the best and freshest banh mi I’ve found. The Bulgogi Beef is excellent, but the classic Korean BBQ banh mi is the staple—and my personal favorite. ($)

Bennett’s Sandwich Shop – Portsmouth, NH
www.bennettssandwichshop.com
With four great locations, Bennett’s serves up sandwiches on freshly baked Italian bread. I always go for the house Italian with hots. Don’t sleep on their chicken tenders and fries either—they’re seriously good. ($)

Lil’s Cafe – Kittery, ME
www.lilscafe.com
Need a morning pick-me-up? Look no further. Their coffee is excellent, and their breakfast sandwiches come on house-made biscuits, bagels, or bread. The Maine Maple Crullers are hands down the best donuts in the world. Get there before 9 a.m. to grab a loaf of their homemade sourdough—it might just be the best sourdough you’ve ever had. (Lines can get long!) ($$)

The Black Birch – Kittery, ME
www.theblackbirch.com
Charming and cozy, this spot is worth the wait (they don’t take reservations or call-aheads). Their hand-crafted cocktails are stellar, and the local beer selection is well-curated. I recommend the fish and chips—but do yourself a favor and order every variety of deviled eggs on the menu. Yes, they’re that good—better than the ones your grandma used to bring to Easter. ($$+)

Bob’s Clam Hut – Kittery, ME
www.bobsclamhut.com
In my (totally biased) opinion, this is the best fried seafood spot in all of Maine and New Hampshire. As a local who grew up in the Seacoast area, I’ve tried them all—and Bob’s wins. The lobster roll is packed, and the fried clams with their house-made tartar sauce will have you ordering a second round to-go. Just be warned: the line in summer can get long. ($$+)

Green Leaves Chinese – York, ME
www.greenleavesrestaurant.com
This place is owned by some of the nicest people, and the food consistently hits the mark. Their mixed drinks? Potent. They’re quick and efficient with takeout, and there’s usually plenty of seating. Their sushi is great, but if you’re going out for Chinese and don’t order a poo-poo platter for two… are you even doing it right? ($$+)

Ristorante Massimo – Portsmouth, NH
www.ristorantemassimo.com
Need a spot to impress on date night? This elevated Italian restaurant has three unique dining rooms, but my top pick is the “fireplace table” downstairs—request it when you book! While it can get pricey, the quality is unmatched. Homemade pasta, rich flavors, and generous half-portion options if you’re not ready to commit to a full plate. Reservations are a must. ($$$)

Though this list just scratches the surface of all the incredible food the greater Eliot / Berwick area has to offer, it’s an excellent place to start. There are solid options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner across all price points. Portsmouth, Dover, Kittery, and York in particular are loaded with restaurants that represent flavors from around the world.

So next time you’re in Eliot or Berwick stocking up at your favorite JAR location, take the opportunity to treat yourself—and maybe someone else—to something delicious nearby.

Cheers to full bellies and stoned minds 😎

Spring Refresh: The Best Strains to Welcome the Season

Posted on: March 3rd, 2025 by Erika Morotta No Comments

After months of cold, short days, March finally brings a shift—longer afternoons, a little more warmth in the air, and the promise of brighter days ahead. Daylight saving time kicks in soon, giving us that extra evening light to enjoy. While we’re not fully into spring just yet, focusing on what’s ahead instead of what’s missing is the best way to embrace the season.

Whether you’re looking for a burst of motivation to get through spring cleaning, a balanced strain for creativity, or something to help you rest and recharge for the big days ahead, we’ve got you covered. Here are five picks to help welcome the longer days (and restful nights):

Citrus ScoutFor Early Mornings & Spring Refresh

Need a jumpstart? Citrus Scout is an energizing sativa that kicks in fast, delivering an immediate boost of motivation. This strain is perfect for tackling that long-overdue to-do list, getting into a deep-cleaning groove, or just soaking up the fresh spring air on an early morning walk. The bright, citrusy profile makes it a great match for those first sips of coffee while the world starts to thaw.

Sour Trop CherriesFor Socializing & Exploring

Longer days mean more time to get out and enjoy life, and Sour Trop Cherries is an excellent companion. With an upbeat, social high and a warm, calming buzz, this strain is made for good times—whether you’re dancing, wandering around town, or catching up with friends. Its sweet and tangy cherry flavor adds to the fun, making every moment feel a little more vibrant.

Rainbow RoadzFor Relaxing Without Slowing Down

If you’re looking to ease into the season with something mellow yet uplifting, Rainbow Roadz has you covered. The sweet, floral aroma is layered with sugar candy, sour limes, and kushy vanilla, making every inhale a treat. The high is long-lasting and happy, letting you unwind without losing your energy—perfect for kicking back on a porch, enjoying the sunset, or just vibing with the longer evenings.

Left LaneFor Creativity, Music & Chill Days

Spring is a time of fresh starts, and Left Lane is all about balance. A hybrid of two local legends, this strain blends smooth, floral, and citrus flavors with just the right mix of mental calm and physical relaxation. It’s a go-to for stress relief, creative projects, or just putting on your favorite album and getting lost in the music. Its uplifting yet soothing effects make it a great choice for those in-between moments—when you’re not rushing, but not ready to wind down either.

Wedding PieFor Rest & Recharging for the Days Ahead

With longer days ahead, staying well-rested is just as important as seizing every moment. Wedding Pie is the perfect strain for winding down and recharging so you’re ready to tackle big plans, goals, and adventures as the season shifts. Its aroma of freshly baked dough, juicy grapes, and pungent gas gives way to rich earth and bold coffee notes on the exhale. The restful, euphoric high melts away stress and fatigue, allowing you to fully relax and wake up refreshed—ready to make the most of the brighter days ahead.

Embrace the Shift

Winter can feel long in Maine, but this time of year is all about transition—more light, more movement, more reasons to get outside and enjoy what’s ahead. Whether you’re shaking off the last bit of winter or leaning fully into the longer days, the right strain can make all the difference.

Which one will you be reaching for first?

An Insider’s Guide to a Perfect Weekend Escape at Sugarloaf

Posted on: February 19th, 2025 by Erika Morotta No Comments

Planning a weekend at Sugarloaf? Whether you’re here to carve up the slopes, kick back in the cozy apres scene, or just vibe with some good cannabis, this guide will set you up for an unforgettable adventure. As a local, I know the best spots to hit, the best strains to bring, and how to make the most of your time in Maine’s most legendary mountain town.

Friday: Arrival

Roll into town with the weekend ahead of you and make sure to swing by JAR Co, located in Judson’s Plaza on 27 north, to stock up on some premium Maine-grown flowers or a few edibles. For a smooth start, a hybrid strain like Razz Cran or MAC 1 will keep you uplifted without putting you in-da-couch.

After you’ve set yourself up, grab dinner at The Rack, a legendary apres-ski bar known for its BBQ, live music, and laid-back scene. It’s the perfect spot to mingle with locals, swap stories, and get hyped for the weekend (make sure to ask the locals about the old Judson’s Motel for some wild tales of old times). Cap off the night with a nightcap at The Red Pony or soak in the hot tub with a mellow indica, like Han Solo Burger or Wedding Pie, and take in the stars.

Saturday: Full Send on the Mountain

Wake up, fuel up, pop your Elevated Hiker gummies, and hit the slopes early – because Sugarloaf is the largest ski resort east of the Rockies, and you’ll want a full day to explore. If you’re an early riser, take the first chair up to the summit, where you’ll catch breathtaking views before carving down Widowmaker or Gondi Line. Not into hardcore shredding? No worries. Stick to the cruisers like Tote Road for a more relaxed ride.

When you’re ready for a break, take a midday breather at Bullwinkle’s Lodge, where you can grab a bite and take in the view from their patio.

Downhill skiing not your thing? Head to the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center or Narrow Gauge Trail instead for some cross-country skiing or a peaceful snowshoe trek. This is also prime time for a sativa-dominant vape like Silver Kush to keep the energy up while you soak in the quiet beauty of the Maine Woods.

For dinner, check out The Bag, a Sugarloaf staple located right at base, that has a selection of local beers and locally loved burgers. End the night back at your place with a Motorbreath pre-roll or step out for some live music at The Widowmaker – because nothing pairs better with a solid high than good tunes.

Sunday: Recover, Relax, and Wrap It Up

Ease into the last day of your trip with a mellow wake & bake (Devil Driver is a great choice) – grab a coffee and pastry at Java Joe’s or opt for a bigger breakfast at D’Ellies, then take your pick: a recovery soak at the Sugarloaf Sports & Fitness Center or a slow ride on the mountain to stretch out those legs. If you’re more into the relaxation route, this is the perfect time for a lighter indica like Divorce Cake to keep things easy.

For your final adventure, take a scenic drive through Carrabassett Valley and don’t forget to stop at JAR Co one more time! Before heading out, definitely hit Tufulio’s for one last meal – think hearty pasta and a laid-back atmosphere to wrap up your weekend.

Final Pro Tips from a Local:

  • Respect the Mountain. Keep your cannabis use responsible and private – Maine law allows for recreational use, but public consumption is still a no-go.
  • Hydrate and Elevate. Between the altitude, skiing, and the joints, water is your BFF.
  • Plan Your Stash. Stock up at JAR before heading up to the mountain so you’re set for the weekend (but we also don’t mind seeing you everyday).

A weekend at Sugarloaf is all about embracing the outdoors, taking it easy, and elevating the experience – however you define that. So pack your gear, buy your favorite strains, and get ready for the ultimate three-day reset in the mountains. See you out there!

Planning the ultimate ski weekend filled with great food, drinks, and mountain vibes? Here’s your local-approved guide to making the most of your Sunday River getaway.

Day 1: Arrival & Local Flavors

Start your mountain weekend off right with a stop at JAR Co.—located just before the Sunday River access road (open 8am-9pm Friday and Saturday). It’s the best spot to grab your favorite cannabis products and some cozy, adventure-ready gear for the weekend ahead.

Once you’re settled in, spark up a sativa pre-roll—Sour Trop Cherries or Citrus Scout are local go-tos for easing into vacation mode. Then head out for dinner at Lemu Eats for bold Laotian-American flavors or The Elizabeth for Latin-inspired comfort food that feels upscale but still relaxed.

Day 2: Mountain Adventures & Après Vibes

Start your day early at The Gemini Bakery (trust me, it gets busy). Grab a hot coffee or matcha, a breakfast sandwich, and definitely a pastry—you deserve it and they are so good.

Fuel up for the slopes with a hybrid or sativa cartridge for that extra flow on the mountain. After carving up the trails, treat yourself to oysters and a cocktail at The Last Run Room at the Grand Summit Lodge. Perfect way to Après.

Wind down (or keep the momentum going) back at your place with a Pine+Star THC drink. Later, swing by Steam Mill Brewing for live music, great food, and their legendary nachos.

Day 3: Reset & Recharge

If the snow’s good, why not sneak in another morning on the mountain? Stop by The Mountain Room for their famous Bloody Mary and Scotch Egg. If you’re with a crew, the Noshing Board is a must!

Prefer something more laid-back? Start the day with a vinyasa or yin class at Chillosophy in Bethel, then soak in the winter scenery with a cross-country ski or snowshoe at Carter’s XC Ski Center.

Important Notes:

  • Maine law allows cannabis use in private spaces only.
  • Be mindful of your consumption, especially when skiing or riding.
  • Know your limits and enjoy responsibly!

From quality products to the best local eats and après spots, this guide has everything you need for an epic Sunday River weekend. Swing by JAR Co. on your way up or down the mountain to stock up and stay cozy!

Cannabis in Fitness: Understanding Its Role in Training and Recovery

Posted on: January 2nd, 2025 by Erika Morotta No Comments

The connection between cannabis and fitness is gaining attention as athletes and fitness enthusiasts explore its potential to enhance training and support recovery. Whether it’s improving focus during workouts, managing discomfort, or optimizing sleep, cannabis may play a role in supporting your fitness journey. Here’s a closer look at how cannabis products could potentially be integrated into your training routine for enhanced benefits.

Training Enhancement

Pain Management

One of the most talked-about benefits of cannabis in fitness is its potential to assist with pain management. THC and CBD may help alleviate various forms of discomfort that often arise during intense training:

  • Exercise-induced muscle soreness: Cannabis may offer relief from the aches and pains that can follow strenuous exercise.
  • Joint discomfort: Especially for those involved in high-impact activities, cannabis could help ease joint discomfort or stiffness.
  • Inflammatory pain: CBD, in particular, is often suggested to help reduce inflammation that builds up after intense training.

Focus and “Flow State”

Many athletes have reported that cannabis helps them achieve a heightened sense of focus, allowing for a more engaged and enjoyable workout experience:

  • Mind-muscle connection: Some users have found that cannabis helps improve focus during weightlifting or precision-based exercises.
  • Improved focus during repetitive activities: Whether it’s running, cycling, or other repetitive movements, cannabis may help make these sessions feel less monotonous and more engaging.
  • Enhanced “flow state”: Some athletes say cannabis allows them to enter a deeper “flow state,” where they feel more immersed in their cardio or strength training sessions.

Recovery Benefits

Improved Sleep

Quality sleep is widely recognized as a key factor in recovery, and cannabis may have a role in improving both the quality and duration of rest:

  • CBD: It may help regulate sleep cycles, potentially leading to more consistent and restful sleep.
  • THC: Some individuals find that THC helps them fall asleep faster after a tough workout, which could aid in recovery.
  • Deeper rest: Both CBD and THC may support deeper sleep stages, potentially enhancing muscle recovery and growth during the night.

Inflammation Reduction

Cannabis compounds, particularly CBD, are often cited for their anti-inflammatory properties, which may help with recovery:

  • Exercise-induced inflammation: CBD may assist in reducing inflammation that arises from intense physical activity.
  • Muscle repair: By managing inflammation, cannabis could potentially help support muscle recovery and faster healing.
  • Minor injuries: For those recovering from minor training-related injuries, cannabis may aid in the healing process, helping you get back to training sooner.

Stress Management

Recovery isn’t just about the body—mental relaxation is just as important. Cannabis might help manage stress, particularly after a challenging workout, by lowering cortisol levels:

  • Reduced cortisol levels: Some research suggests that cannabis could help reduce cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone, which may aid in both physical and mental recovery.
  • Relaxation: Many find that cannabis helps promote relaxation, which is essential for mental recovery after intense training.
  • Better adaptation: By reducing stress, cannabis might help improve overall training adaptation, allowing your body to recover more efficiently and perform better in subsequent workouts.

Integration Guidelines

To get the most out of cannabis, timing and product selection are key. Here are some suggestions for how to incorporate cannabis into your fitness routine:

Timing Strategies

  • Post-workout: Some people find that using cannabis after a workout may help optimize recovery and manage soreness.
  • Evening use: If sleep is an issue, cannabis in the evening might improve sleep quality, enhancing recovery during the night.
  • Pre-workout: Micro-dosing cannabis before training could potentially enhance focus and provide mental clarity, especially during more intense sessions.
  • Rest days: Integrating cannabis on rest days may support muscle recovery and reduce lingering soreness.

Product Selection

  • High-CBD products: These may be particularly useful for managing inflammation and supporting muscle recovery.
  • Balanced THC/CBD formulas: These combinations may promote relaxation and improve sleep without causing strong psychoactive effects.
  • Topicals: Cannabis-infused creams and balms may provide targeted relief for sore muscles or joints.
  • Edibles: These can offer sustained recovery benefits throughout the day or night, depending on your needs.

Training Applications

Different types of training may benefit from cannabis in unique ways. Here’s how it could potentially support various workouts:

Strength Training

  • Mind-muscle connection: Some users report that cannabis helps them focus on form and technique, enhancing the effectiveness of their strength training.
  • Joint relief: For heavy lifts, cannabis may help alleviate joint discomfort, allowing for smoother, less painful workouts.
  • Recovery between sets: Some athletes find that cannabis can reduce soreness between sets, enabling them to push themselves harder during their lifting routine.

Endurance Training

  • Enhanced “runner’s high”: Cannabis might amplify the positive mental and physical effects of long-distance exercises, such as running or cycling.
  • Better pacing: Cannabis could potentially improve awareness of pacing, helping athletes maintain energy throughout endurance activities.
  • Post-session recovery: After long-distance training, cannabis may assist in reducing soreness, promoting quicker recovery between sessions.

High-Intensity Training

  • Stress management: During high-intensity intervals, cannabis might help manage both physical and mental stress, improving performance and endurance.
  • Recovery between intervals: Cannabis could help reduce recovery time between intense intervals, making it easier to perform at your best.
  • Improved sleep: After intense workouts, cannabis may support better sleep quality, optimizing recovery and muscle growth overnight.

Conclusion

Cannabis products offer potential benefits for both performance enhancement and recovery optimization. Whether it’s reducing pain, improving sleep, or promoting relaxation, cannabis may be a valuable tool in your fitness routine. The key is finding the right products and integrating them in a way that supports your unique goals and needs.

As you explore these benefits, keep in mind that everyone’s response to cannabis is different. Start small, experiment with different products, and pay attention to how your body responds. Cannabis is just one of many tools you can use to train smarter, recover faster, and elevate your overall fitness journey.
